KUALA LUMPUR: Beauty queen Rachel Tan will say her “I do's” in Malibu, Los Angeles, in September and again in Kuala Lumpur some time between December and January next year.
Tan, 29, met her American-born Chinese fianc Dan Mark, 30, at a church gathering in Hong Kong while he was on a trip.
Sparks flew immediately and the long-distance relationship that ensued was kept alive with phone calls, SMSes, e-mail, Facebook and Skype, Tan told The Star.
“The LA wedding will be held for Dan's side of the family while the KL wedding will be for mine,” she said.
Mark, an entertainment lawyer for Warner Brothers' in Los Angeles, proposed last week just seven months into their relationship.
“It was a Romeo and Juliet-themed pro-posal. He left a trail of roses that led all the way from the entrance to the balcony of his bachelor pad in LA. When I got there, it was lit with candles and flowers and he proposed with a ring on bended knee.
“I was in tears by then and, of course, I said yes. We went to our favourite French restaurant afterwards and celebrated with champagne,” she said.
The couple will celebrate their honeymoon in Rome and Vatican City.
Tan, who holds a masters degree in law from Cambridge University, currently works for a law firm in Hong Kong but will be moving to Los Angeles.
Tan first gained fame when she won the Miss Chinese Internationalpageant in Hong Kong in 2003.
She also starred in the popular local Chinese sitcom Homecoming onAstro in 2003 and landed a two-year contract with Jackie Chan International Artiste Management in 2007.
